That is all.
That is all.
Today was my first day running back-to-back days in a while. I ran in the afternoon, it was overcast and not terribly warm. In other words I had favorable running conditions. I ran a little over 3 miles in 32 minutes. First 20 minutes was pretty easy but I really struggled during the last 10-12 minutes. Today I’ll try another 3-5 mile run in preparation for a long training run this coming Sunday.
Postscript – I bought a new pair of Asics Gel-Kayano’s today from Run ‘N Roll on South Dixie Highway in West Palm. They’re pretty much top of the line and you can tell when you lace them up. These will be my half and full marathon shoes. I’ll continue running in my Pearl iZumi’s and alternate between the two but find that the additional cushioning and stability of the Kayano’s will make them long distance shoe. Speaking of Run N’ Roll. Jerry, the proprietor there, is a great guy and gave me tons of advice and tips on running marathons. He’s completed something like 50 of them – a local Boston boy turned South Florida native. In any event the big test is seeing how I fair over a half marathon. He said that it is possible to still get ready for the full in Miami in 2 1/2 months but that I’m pushing it pretty hard. He recommended just finishing the half in Palm Beach, doing another half for Miami ‘with intent’ and then going for the full in Ft. Lauderdale in February, which will give me 3 full months. He also expressed his preference for the Ft. Lauderdale
run over both Palm Beach and Miami because the track in Lauderdale is completely on the beach. Sounds like good advice to me. His other tip was to run tomorrow morning at 6am with the Palm Beach Road Runners. They’ll be running the half marathon route and Jerry recommended that I try to double my typical run of 5 miles under race conditions. They’ll have water and gatorade out along the route and this will give me people to run with as well, which I’m not at all used to. Let’s see if I can drag my ass out of bed at 5AM, scarf down a banana for carb loading and see how far I can make it.
Asics Gel-Kayano Mileage=3 (range 400 to 450 miles)
Pearl iZumi Mileage=20 (300 to 350 miles)
The marathon training remains anemic but tonight I got out there and ran 47 minutes. A few more minutes than the usual and I at least felt a lot better than my crap first run this weekend. All great journeys begin with the first step and all that….
After being sick and then traveling to New York for a business conference my training for the Marathon of the Palm Beaches and Miami marathon haven’t exactly gotten off to a blazing start. Today I got out there. Like they say, all glory comes from daring to begin. I have to tell you it wasn’t easy. I went out when it was too hot, and it has been a few weeks since a long run, but whoa, the weather really kicked my ass. At least, that’s all I hoped it was.
I was only able to run for 46 minutes (a little over 5 miles) and the run almost killed me. After a little of that, even a half marathon seems daunting. I’ve resolved to get out early in the morning OR at night and not try to take on the baking sun. I’m also going to work on doing a modified version of my strength training that will focus on my upper body, since my lower body will get more than enough training from the added running.
I think that my eating and general diet will be critical to both my races and my training. I have no doubt that my eating a bunch of crap food last night had a lot to do with my lack of running energy when I ran at 11:30AM this morning. Garbage in – garbage out.
The latest news is that CNN is getting in to the action with their own venture.
What do you think? This theme or Fauna (the yellow one I’ve been running)?
I’ve been running a 4.8 mile route around Wellington recently and wanted to start keeping track of my average running speed. My latest run was December 21 where I ran the 4.8 miles in 38:49. Using this calculator I found online that comes out to an average of 7.419 mph.
I can’t seem to stop myself from trying to figure out how all the themes and plugins work for WordPress. I’ve completely forgotten the most important part…The content stupid!
It’s 4:57AM and I still haven’t gone to bed. There’s something seriously wrong with this picture.
Well, after spending most of the day updating my company site and setting up a company blog I thought I’d throw together a quick blog that I won’t likely ever use just to try out some different themes. I like this one from Fauna.
The company blog will be a great way to write every day about work stuff. I still need to figure out the whole auto update your blog from an RSS feed thing. I’d like to have each rss story show up as an individual post but so far I haven’t gotten any of the plugins to work. All the easy ones cost money. Newman! My business is coming along as well. Next up we need to dramatically edit the content presentation so that the initial screens are much less copy intense. The training page is still a non-starter as well.
Nothing more to add.
